Development of Phonetic Accuracy and Speech Intelligibility in Tamil Speaking Typically Developing Children

Intelligibility can play a major role in communication systems. The aim of the study is to investigate development phonetic accuracy and speech intelligibility typically developing (TD) Tamil speaking children find relation between as measured using Percentage phoneme correct rating. A total 150 TD native age range 2 6.11 years participated study. These were further divided into 5 groups. Stimuli consisted 9 sentences 15 words Tamil. Each child was seated comfortably pictures randomly presented one after other. investigator said word/sentence respective picture shown, instructed repeat investigator. responses audio recorded wavesufer software through laptop. listened samples, transcribed identified correct/incorrect phonemes. Phonetic determined PPC. Results revealed that PPC increased with age.
